Excalibur
A downloadable game for Windows
This game was my very first foray into Adventure Game programming, being originally written in Microsoft BASIC for the Commodore PET in 1981 - forty-three years ago. Some time later I ported it over to the C64, and later still rewrote it for the Amiga using AGT - the Adventure Game Toolkit. I recently discovered that I had the original source files for the AGT version on my hard drive and, with the help of Garry Francis (Warrigal), managed to produce a version which will run on the PC. Many thanks to Garry.
It was a child of its time, with lots of pointless complex mazes and other anachronisms, and I almost feel embarrassed to upload it, but am doing so for the sake of completeness. The C64 version can still be downloaded from elsewhere, but has bugs which prevent its completion (although I have seen a walkthrough by Dorothy Millard in which it would appear she has managed to complete it successfully). This AGT version, however, runs perfectly well, although there are slight differences from the versions produced for the PET and C64, and you could not reliably use a walkthrough produced for these versions. There are also a few non-critical bugs.
After unzipping you should click on the file AGiliTy.exe and from this open the file Excalibur.agx. Details of various options available are contained within the game instructions thereafter.
I've included two other files - walkthrough.txt and replay.log which. are included in the zip file. The former is self-explanatory, and the latter can be used as a script file to run through the game automatically as described in the instructions provided. The map was compiled by someone else from the C64 version and may not be completely accurate, but is still useful.
